On to New York
I've taken this trip many times. Except for the elimination of the conversion from diesel engines to electric motors at New Haven with the (century-delayed) electrification of the line, it hasn't changed much. First the massive highway construction of the Big Dig. Then we accelerate to over 100 mph (162 km/h) through MBTA and Amtrak tracks in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The marshes of coastal Connecticut on the south side of the train, with the Atlantic peeking through from time to time. Slow down on the commuter-filled Metro North tracks after New Haven, parallel Manhattan's skyline on elevated tracks in Queens, then ears pop as the train tunnels across the East River. I know the scenery down to the Sports Authority that we pass just before entering the tunnel.
